THE PLOT
Mutants among us?
Could this be true?
Could the thin veil of security we have wrapped ourselves in be swept away
by the next step in man's evolution?
Enter The X-men.
The movie opens with an incredible origin sequence for Magneto, and its nonstop from there. From A to Xavier, you are introduced to mutant after mutant. Professor Charles Xavier desires peaceful coexistence between mankind and mutants. Magneto wants peaceful existence for mutants at the cost of mankind. The only thing in his way are the X-men. Personally, I think this is one of the best comic book to movie adaptations I have seen yet. I have to confess, I went into the theater prepared for the worst - ready for disappointment, but I left very impressed.
Based on the best-selling comic, X-MEN is directed by Bryan Singer.

Before she was recruited by Professor Xavier, Ororo Monroe was worshipped as a storm goddess in Africa. Since becoming an X-Man, Storm has used her power to control the forces of weather to help save a world that would consider other mutants as less than human.
Storm is my favorite X-men character, and honestly, I was a more than a little disappointed when I heard that Halle Berry would be playing her (secretly, I was hoping for Angela Basset or even Iman). Halle wasn't given enough screen-time or lines in the film to really be able to evaluate her performance as Storm. She looked great in the outfit, and the effects were right on the money.

.
Also known as Logan, the seemingly ageless X-Man possesses genetically endowed animal-keen senses, an enhanced healing factor, and a set of razor-sharp claws.
What can I possibly say? He looks hot in the outfit. He looks hot shirtless. Mabelyn.com wants to bear his children. Hugh Jackman is Wolverine.

The first student of Professor X, Jean Grey-Summers possesses both telekinetic and telepathic abilities - giving her the power to move objects with her mind, as well as read the thoughts of others.
I liked Famke. Her portrayal as Jean Grey was excellent. My only regret is that she was maintained at a relatively low level of power, but then again, there are always sequels...
The young woman known as Rogue joined the X-Men in a last ditch attempt to learn how to control the genetic attributes that are both her blessing and her curse - namely, the ability to absorb the memories and talents of others through slightest touch. Tragically, she has yet to control this power - and so she is forced to keep those she loves the most at arm's length.
Beautiful. Innocent. Independent. Vulnerable. Romantic. Tragic. Rogue. I was impressed. I was skeptical, at first, about the fact that she was so young, compared to the other mutants on the team, but it served a purpose. Her youth gave her a vulnerable quality. She was still inexperienced, and still very naive about her abilities and herself. The slight hint of that southern accent was a very nice touch.

Like Wolverine, Victor Creed has a mutant healing factor that makes him immune to most harm. Sabertooth also shares something else with his archenemy - they are both bio-engineered products of the supersecret Project-X Program.
Perfect casting here, as far as I'm concerned. His size and impressive stature gave this man an amazing screen presence.
.

A founding member of the X-men, Scott Summers possesses the mutant power to discharge optic blasts of concussive force from his eyes.
Cyclops was never one of my favorite characters. Still isn't. Let's just leave it at that, shall we.

Known as the "Master of Magnetism", Magneto has the power to manipulate magnetic energies in a variety of deadly ways.
Superb. The first sequence of the film featuring the emergence of his mutant power was incredible. Granted, he's a bit older and less buffed than his comic book counterpart, but nonetheless, Ian McKellen brings a magnetic charm to this master villain.

Mortimer Toynbee possesses the mutant power of super-leaping,
climbing walls and can secrete a paralyzing substance from his hands.
The "tongue thing" and slime effect were added for the film.
A big leap from Darth Maul, huh?

Raven Darkholme is an enigma, even to herself. Her mutant shape-shifting abilities allow her to take on the form of any humanoid with amazing accuracy.
I think this was a great interpretation of Mystique. Unique and animalistic. Sensual yet terrifying. Hey - she almost kicked Wolverine's ass! When she turns into a guy, does she get all the guy parts?
Professor Charles Xavier was born with one of the most powerful minds on Earth. Not only is he a certifiable genius but a telepath as well, able to read the minds of others and project his own thoughts.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a wheelchair. Engage.
