History: According to the Elves, he was the only survivor of a vicious raid by a rogue band of Drow. He was informed that his family was slaughtered, his home ransacked and burnt, and he left for dead. A large gash above his left eye (now a jagged scar) seemed both to confirm this and account for his apparent memory loss. Vargas had no choice but to accept this as fact. As he was led away from the scene of the massacre, he silently swore an oath of vengeance against his attackers. The elves took care of Vargas until he was well enough to travel. Over the course of the next three years they allowed Vargas to remain amongst their company and educated him in their ways. Despite their gracious hospitality, Vargas never truly felt at home with his Elven saviors. Prior to his fourteenth year, he met up with a patrol garrison from the Mathien army. The contrast between the casual structure of his companions and the strict hierarchy of the soldiers fascinated Vargas. Over the roar of the fire, Vargas sat in rapt attention to the soldiers as they told their tales. The tales of heroics, fighting for a worthy cause, and protecting the innocent were in stark contrast to the simple nature-attuned values of his traveling companions. Theirs was a life of simplicity and spirituality, the soldiers one of adventure. When the groups parted ways, Vargas bid farewell to his friends and stayed with the patrol. The next few years were harsh but not unpleasant. Vargas toiled in a variety of unpleasant and difficult tasks acting as page and errand boy for the soldiers. In return the soldiers taught him discipline and the ways of war. Soon Vargas was strong enough to join their ranks. For over four years he served with them; routing hordes of brigands; hunting beasts that threatened the local populace; and keeping order. In this time of peace, however, he grew restless and yearned for greater adventures. Vargas knew in his heart that it was once again time to move on. Vargas pledged his loyalty to his queen and commander, and should either ever need his service, his blade would be ready, and with that he said his good-byes and went forth on his own to seek out his destiny, whatever and wherever that might be. It has been discovered through the course of the adventure, that Vargas is one of the several children (sons) of Mathien. History has painted Mathien as having left no heirs, but reality and a king's libido have proven otherwise. Personal Goals:
